Chloé Mauvais and Alexis Wood to Lead New Media Working Group
We're delighted to announce that Chloé Mauvais and Alexis Wood will serve as the next coordinators of the New Media Working Group for the 2026–2027 academic year.
The New Media Working Group is a gathering of graduate students from departments across campus who share an interest in the material, social, political, aesthetic, and philosophical implications of digital media. Anyone with an interest in new media is invited to attend. The working group provides an outlet for those doing work in the humanities, art practice, and STEM fields to share their perspectives and learn from the approaches of other disciplines, with a mix of student-led workshops, group excursions, guest speakers, and seminars focused on technical instruction or professionalization.
Chloé Mauvais is a PhD student in Hispanic Languages and Literatures at UC Berkeley with a Designated Emphasis in New Media. Her research explores epistemological shifts in Latin American climate literatures and how innovative literary forms reflect changing ecologies, with additional interests in AI and robotic affects. Prior to beginning her PhD, Chloé worked as a Research Associate in Latin America Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. She currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of Lucero and co-runs the Environmental Humanities Working Group. A former semi-professional bike racer, she now coaches new cyclists and trains in middle-distance running.
Alexis Wood is a PhD student in the Department of Geography. As a digital geographer and critical cartographer, her research examines the intersections of digitalities, climate change, and rural socio-political movements through U.S. state secessionist movements. Before starting her PhD program, Alexis worked as a Data Coordinator for the Redistricting Data Hub, collecting and processing Community of Interest (COI) maps during the most recent redistricting cycle. In earlier chapters of her career, she trained as an archaeologist in the United Kingdom and briefly pursued opera studies.
Jaclyn Zhou and Caleb Murray-Bozeman will continue leading the New Media Working Group through the end of the current academic year, after which Chloé and Alexis will step into their roles as coordinators for 2026–2027.
We extend our sincere thanks to Jaclyn and Caleb for their leadership of the working group and look forward to the programming and conversations that Chloé and Alexis will bring in the coming year!
