Alex Saum-Pascual at Global Summit in Spain

Alex Saum-Pascual speaking at Global Summit

BCNM faculty member Alex Saum-Pascual recently represented UC Berkeley at a high-level international summit in Madrid focused on the future of work in the age of artificial intelligence. Hosted by Spain’s Ministry of Labor and Social Economy and led by Vice President Yolanda Díaz, the event brought together global experts, policymakers, and major tech industry representatives to address how AI is reshaping labor conditions worldwide.

As part of a featured roundtable on gender bias in AI, Alex joined scholars and industry leaders to examine how algorithmic systems can reinforce inequality—and how they might be redesigned to promote fairness in the workplace. The summit emphasized the growing influence of "algorithmic management" and highlighted the urgent need for ethical frameworks as AI becomes more embedded in labor systems across Europe and beyond.
